How to Get Your Strong Voice to Win

Interview with Ruby Rojas, Head Coach at Mt San Antonio College

SOFTBALL IS 90% MENTAL LET'S COACH LIKE IT!

Are you ready to commit to this process?

LET'S DO IT!

We’re back again with another coach interview! This guest is pursuing her Doctorate in Sport Psychology and uses these concepts to help build her athletes from the top down.

In doing so, she has created a powerhouse program in the California Junior College ranks, and leads the reigning NFCA Cal JC National Coaching Staff of the Year. She has coached and mentored multiple athletes with awards including All-American, All-State, All-Conference, and Academic All-American.

She also has incredible experiences as a Division I athlete and as an Olympian for the Venezuelan national team. She began playing internationally when she was just a teenager, eventually helping her team get to the 2008 Olympics, and she’s been advocating for and teaching the sport of softball ever since.

We are so excited to share the stories and strategies of
Mt. San Antonio College’s Ruby Rojas!

In this episode, we discuss:

  • When she was first introduced to Sport Psychology
  • How she struggled with relaxing and controlling her emotions as a player
  • The many strategies she uses with her team to build their mental toughness and choose their strong voice
  • The tactics she uses to get her girls to buy into the mental game
  • Her number one tip for coaches who want to successfully use the mental game like she has.

Today’s bonus!

Ruby provided us with the worksheet she described in the show, called “What’s Holding You Back” from the book What Drives Winning. The link to that is below, and we have also created a follow-up activity like Ruby speaks about in the show, where your players write a letter to their weak voice telling it why it’s holding them back. Get both sheets below!
